Please Help!! How do I know if my soundcard supports midi in?!?

I have been trying for a long time to transmit data from my beat box into the computer. I have an EMX-1 Music Production Station to make my music. I bought the midi cables, I have recording software but it’s not working! My beat box reads that its transmitting but I can’t hear the track playback from the recording software. I read somewhere that not all soundcards support midi in. I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop that I’m working with. If anyone can tell me how to get these beats from there into my computer I will appreciate it more than I can say! This has been one big headache! – I’ve checked my volume controls and there’s no midi option – only cd player, synth sw, pc speakers and wave.

Most likely you will need a midi interface, something like a Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI Interface . This takes the midi out from your beat box and inputs it to your laptop via the USB port. I have used it very successfully with midi from a keyboard and from a SoundBeam. I don’t know where you are but the cheapest supplier that I found in the UK was at the link below.

‘Brand China’ takes aim at global electronics giants
